Aim
To explore the link between mouth breathing, biofilm formation, and oral disease, and equip delegates with practical questioning techniques within the NSK M.I.T. – Minimally Invasive Therapy Step 0 framework to identify mouth breathers and support meaningful behaviour change.

By the end of this webinar, delegates will be able to:

  1. Explain how mouth breathing alters the oral environment and influences biofilm formation, and its downstream impact on oral disease risk.
  2. Describe the relationship between mouth breathing, sleep quality, and the body’s healing capacity.
  3. Identify key questions to incorporate into Step 0 (Screen/Assess) of the M.I.T. – Minimally Invasive Therapy flow to flag potential mouth breathing.
  4. Recognise how disclosing plaque scores and periodontal findings to patients can be used as a springboard to open further conversation about breathing patterns.
  5. Apply behaviour change principles to support patients who mouth breathe, including practical suggestions to share with them.
  6. Identify appropriate complementary practitioners for referral and interdisciplinary support.
